In 2001 Peak District National Park Association (PDNPA) and
Derbyshire Rural Community Council were encouraging villages to
draw up "village plans" which would be used to support
the future allocation of funds.
Only Parish Councils (PCs) could apply for a grant to fund the
work on plans. It was expected though that the plan should
be drawn up by the villagers, rather than the councillors and
their officers.
Public meetings were held and the action group formed from
volunteers. Its remit was to identify the wishes of the
villagers and incorporate them in an action plan. Then to
set up groups which would work with the PC to enact the proposed
actions. The group was chaired by the Parish Clerk.
The plan was published in 2003. Several local
organisations have used it to support applications for funding for
projects identified in the plan.
The Village Action Group (VAG) produces the Bradwell News a
free local newspaper which is distributed to every house in the
village. Editor of the newsletter is Paul Downing and the
costs of the 750 monthly copies is met from advertising and paid
articles. If you would like to help please contact Joyce
(01433 621865) or Paul (01433 623941).
The VAG lacks enough volunteers to enable other projects.
The PC and other voluntary groups in the village are following up
some areas identified in the village plan, but not under aegis of
the Village Action Plan.
The group still holds an open AGM, the current officers are
Chairman Peter Hodges, Secretary Liz Downing , Treasurer Michael
Emsen.
